I was just wondering where you keep your litter tray as I can't decide!

I thought of putting it the living room as that is were they spend alot of their time but it's abit unsightly so I then thought of the bathroom but I like to keep my bathroom door shut due to a three year old with a tap obsession, so thats out of the question. My partner doesn't want the litter tray in the kitchen as he thinks it will attract flies, making it unhygenic. So as you can see we can't decide and I was just wondering where you keep your cat litter tray!

three in the utility room (it will only attract flies if you don't keep it clean), one in the bathroom and one in the kitten room.

I have two side by side in the kitchen, I always pick up poop as they do it and sift for clumps morning and evening and we get very few flies in the house, if you keep on top of it and keep it clean then it won't smell or be unhygienic.

The best thing to avoid smelly toilets is to get a good litter. The ones we've been using (Oko, Nature Gold and Tigerino Eco-'something') absorbs well the pee smells and the cat toilet passes unnoticed (I hid it inside a chest it and my visitors sometimes sit on her toilet not aware of it). I used to leave it on the living room/kitchen in the flat I've lived before. Now, we have more space and it stays in the entrance hall.

The poo, in the other hand, gets smelly if it's not covered (Ari rarely covers) so I clean it as soon as I notice she's done. It never attracted flies, though. Her food is mostly the reason why flies come in.

If you have a cat with good toilet manners you won't have a problem. Someone actually made a toilet under one of the kitchen cabinets. It's was a thread last week about it.

I have an open tray in the kitchen and always scoop as soon as possible, the only time there is anything which hasn't been scooped within a few minutes is when she has peed overnight.

Any fly which enters the Cookie household will get pounced upon and eaten very quickly - so enter at ye peril :D

Cellar, got loads of space down there. I only go down there to use the washing machine and dryer. I also use Oko which is brilliant for smells, and the odd fly that appears is mostly due to cooking smells that stay around because I haven't got an extractor fan. I'm hoping the new cat I'm getting won't need one for long as he's an outdoor cat, but his will be put in a different place so Jess knows which is hers.

I have two of the catit trays and both reside in the bathroom. They are cleaned out 3 times a day - minimum - and we have never found any flies in there.

McGee has assigned himself the job of Moggy Towers Fly-erminator so very few flies who come in ever get out again.............. :D

Ideally I would like something like that, a piece of furniture that covers the tray. The covered litter box I am planning on getting is quite big though, so I'm not sure it would fit in a chest...

But I have to say, so far, the "where to put the litter box" has been (and still is!) the biggest question for me! I am glad to see that many people put it in their kitchen as this is what I was planning first but was concerned about hygiene/smells.

  9. I have 2 catit trays, both in the cats room side by side and they are cleaned out 3+ times a day.

We have three trays. Two are in the bathroom, and there is a 'spare emergency' one in the spare bedroom upstairs.

All three are 'covered' versions with a 'filter'.

Cleaned 3 times a day, in morning, when i get home from work and before bed

We use asda smart wood pellets - no smells.

Flies - if there are any they dont last long with Lilly.

We have 2 in the downstairs cloakroom, one either side of the toilet. It is easy to keep the litter swept up and the floor clean as it is tiled. Maisie makes some horrendous smells which permeate every floor of the house so no way would I put a tray in the kitchen.

Actually, I wouldn't put it in the kitchen anyway, it's a bit like eating your lunch in the toilet, but I know a lot of people do. Utility room would be my next choice, or upstairs bathroom.

Currently I have two in the kitchen and three in the lounge. No problem with flies. Two trays are covered and three open. I have been using Oko litter but have just changed to Tigerino Ecoverde.
I don't really like having the trays in the kitchen but don't have anywhere else for them

We have 2 bathrooms, one in the "day" area that we try and send anyone visiting to, and we use most often, and one in the "night" area (it's an Italian thing...) that has 2 trays in it, the mop, shoes, etc., that we try and keep visitors away from! Trays are scooped as soon as anything's done in them and it's hard for flies to get into our flat because we have screened windows. No pongs, but that's raw food for you!!

Two in the living room which only #2 cat, Fudge, uses (pee and poo trays) one under the stairs, one at the foot of the stairs and the last one on the landing.

Of my four cats there's only Fudge who uses *her* trays regularly. How I look forward to getting downstairs in the morning, opening the living room door to be met by the smell of something that if it was found in a neighbours garden they'd be justified in reporting me for dumping toxic waste.

The other three trays are seldom used and I'm not sure by which cat, but I'm not fool enough to remove them.
